Return of the King

After all of the controversy, all of the rumors, all of the trouble, the fact that Kanye West's album is so good speaks to his personality, he loves the controversy, it fuels him. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is by far Kanye's best work, it is among the best rap albums ever, maybe even among the best albums ever. But as Jay-Z said, "Men lie, Women lie, Numbers Dont", so dont take my word, lets see what the album sales say. This blog has ben posting many of Kanye's songs that he has released, and most of them were really good. Almost too good. You would think that maybe Kanye revealed his best cards too soon, but thats not the case. Of all the songs on the album, the ones that you've heard already are either slightly edited or remixed, and the new ones are amazing. I was impressed with Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 for having all good songs, and Kanye has managed to do the same.
I feel that Kanye's album has finally found out a good use for autotune, as a tool, and not the foundation for an album. Its used very tastefully, and not to say that 808's wasn't a good album, the autotune is just not overwhelming as it was in his last album. Its also great to see Kanye West return to a more outspoken and esoteric tone, such as in the song Power and Lost In The World. They dont compare lyrically to Crack Music (Just listen to what he says in that song!), but the songs both clearly have a meaning. Also, all of the songs stick to the albums title of a dark, twisted fantasy. To me, Kanye is trying to portray himself as a monster (obviously, the song Monster is on the album), but I think he is speaking more of as himself being his own worst enemy. Kanye has finally figured out how to be self aware and remorseful without being self-deprecating. He can speak of what he regrets without insulting himself (He did that alot in 808's, but the again, he had just lost his mom). If I had any dislikes, I have to say, more Big Sean, and where's Lil Wayne(he wasn't in jail when the album was being produced), Lupe, Pharrell, and Common?
Regardless, Kanye still managed to incorporate a lot of star power on his album. From Rihanna to Elton John, he has crossed the usual musical boundaries and this is clear even in the beats. Kanye incorporated electric guitars, pianos, synthesizers, and African influenced music into the album, again setting himself apart from the typical rap sound.
Overall, this album is a must purchase, a truly memorable album. If this is Kanye West's last album, well it's an amazing farewell. Leave it to Kanye to create an album that feels like an event. My question is............. whats next?
